Rusk Independent School District In accordance with Texas House Bill 1481 Rusk ISD has adjusted its cell phone policy district-wide. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, a new Texas law (HB 1481) mandates that school districts limit student use of personal communication devices during the school day. In compliance with this law, Rusk ISD will require all students to leave their electronic devices at home or power them off and store them away while on campus. Personal devices will not be permitted for use at any time during school hours. This legislation aims to reduce distractions, safeguard student privacy, and enhance the overall learning environment. What is a Personal Communication Device? •	Cell Phone •	Smartwatch •	Tablet •	Pager or other electronic devices Rusk ISD Policy (Effective August 6, 2025) •	Students may bring devices to school •	Devices must be stored away securely during the school day (backpack or locker) •	Use is not allowed during passing periods, lunches, or during class •	More information and consequences for use of personal devices will be outlined in the student handbook The law does provide exceptions for students with documented medical or safety needs or special education accommodations.
